Dr. Patrick Henry Hart

Assistant Professor
Department of English Language and Literature

Since being given an old Praktica SLR as a young teenager, I have had a love for photography.

In the Autumn semester of 2014 I taught a special topics course at Bilkent University on 'Literature and the Photograph', which proved immensely popular with students. I'd be happy to share the syllabus and readings for this course with anyone who might be interested, and hope to teach a version of it again one day.

I am currently working on a project to photograph a series of imagined stills from Pier Paolo Pasolini's film of the life of Saint Paul, a film Pasolini was never able to make. I am always interested in new photographic projects, and enjoy working collaboratively – please feel free to contact me if you have an idea for a project in mind.

One of the pleasures of photography for me is its democratic, egalitarian, quotidian quality: most of us own a camera of some sort, even if it is only the one attached to our phone, and most of us enjoy taking and/or looking at pictures. I like 'snaps'!

Some of my photographs of activities run by or associated with the Department of English Language and Literature at Bilkent, from theatre productions to poetry readings to in-class workshops, can be found here. (Please note that this website is not an official Bilkent University website.)
